Bio
Lauren Insko is a PhD student in the Department of Biochemistry at North Carolina State University and a member of the Rellán-Álvarez Lab. Her research focuses on understanding the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying phosphorus use efficiency in maize. As a Research Scholar at the STEPS Center, she uses CRISPR-based genetics to investigate genes involved in phosphorus uptake, recycling, metabolism, and storage. Her work aims to identify strategies to improve phosphorus use efficiency, reduce reliance on mined phosphate fertilizers, and minimize phosphorus losses to the environment, contributing to STEPS’ 25-in-25 vision for more sustainable nutrient management
