Bio
Diana Vanegas, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Biosystems Engineering in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University. She received her B.S. in Food Engineering from Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) and her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL). Her research interests span two main areas: (i) developing biosensors for detecting the presence of harmful contaminants in food and water, and (ii) assessing pollution, hazardous exposures, and associated health risks in engineered food-water systems. Her work is highly interdisciplinary, and she often collaborates with social scientists to better understand the complex interplay between community outcomes and environmental pollution.
