Dr. Jehangir H. Bhadha is an Associate Professor in the Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences Department, located at University of Florida (UF) – Everglades Research and Education Center (EREC), in Belle Glade, Florida. Dr. Bhadha’s research and extension program focusses on promoting sustainable agriculture within South Florida and beyond. He is also an Affiliate Faculty, UF-Interdisciplinary Ecology, School of Resources and Environment; Affiliate Faculty, UF-Water Institute; and Affiliate Faculty, UF-Center for Sustainable and Organic Food Systems. Prior to this, Dr. Bhadha was a Research Scientist working on phosphorus Best Management Practices at the EREC. Dr. Bhadha received his Bachelor of Science in Geology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, India in 1999. Majoring in petrology and environmental sciences. He received his Master of Science in Geological Sciences from UF, in 2003. Majoring in hydrogeology, and minoring in environmental engineering. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Soil and Water Sciences from UF, in 2009.

Dr. Bhadha has mentored 16 graduate students: 7 PhDs, 3 Masters (thesis) and 6 Professional Masters (non-thesis), and served on an additional 12 committees (3 PhD and 9 MS). He has also mentored 16 undergraduate students – including 6 from University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), 2 from Earth University (Costa Rica), 2 from Zamorano University (Honduras), 1 from Cornell University, 1 from Virginia Tech University, and 4 from UF. He has financially supported 6 graduate students with assistantship/fellowships via competitive external and internal funding mechanisms. Dr. Bhadha has been instrumental in securing $3.1 million in grant funding to run his research and extension program. Dr. Bhadha has published 2 book chapters, 38 peer-reviewed publications including 11 extension papers, 65 scientific abstracts, and given 43 presentations including 19 that were invited. More than half of his published works are on the topic of phosphorus. In addition to this, Dr. Bhadha has developed 3 instructional multimedia presentations, 2 webinar series, and 27 news and media apparencies. Dr. Bhadha is an active member of numerous local, national, and international scientific societies, including Internationalizing Extension – Subgroup of eXtension Foundation, the Fulbright Specialist Program, American Association for the Advancement of Science, International Institute for Environmental Studies, American Geophysical Union, Soil Science Society of America, International Society of Sugarcane Technologist, and the Geological Society of America to name a few. He has served on numerous scientific review panels including the National Science Foundation, USDA, and the Soil Sciences Society of America. Dr. Bhadha has also been the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the Fulbright Specialist Roster, awarded by the U.S department of States Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, the George Barley Water Prize for ‘Solution to Remove and Recover Phosphorus from Water”.
