Dr. Chrystal Dean is a professor of mathematics education and the director of the Mathematics and Science Education Center in the Reich College of Education (RCOE) at Appalachian State University. She received her B.S. in mathematics/secondary education and her M.A. in instructional technology from Appalachian State University. After teaching mathematics and science for four years to fulfill her North Carolina Teaching Fellows obligation, she earned her Ph.D. in mathematics education from Vanderbilt University.
Currently, she is serving as the Association of Mathematics Education (AMTE) Associate Vice President for Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education-Mathematics Education (CITE-Math Co-editor). Her research focuses on supporting students who struggle with mathematics, including being a member of the team that established five mathematics clinics to help K-8 students.
Dr. Dean joined the STEPS program as part of the Research-to-Action Multidisciplinary Projects (RAMP) Course.
