Phosphorus education project featured at NC Science Teachers Association conference
By: Kathleen Bordewieck
STEPS researchers and scholars from our Education team attended the North Carolina Science Teachers’ Association annual conference earlier this month in Winston-Salem, NC.
Dr. Gail Jones, Kathleen Bordewieck, Madeline Stallard, Amber Meeks, and Amy Taylor led a conference session highlighting a new STEPS phosphorus escape-box lesson for teachers. Other members of the team included Doug Call, Jessica Deaver, and Jenny Ding. Approximately 45 teachers attended the “Great Escape Box Challenge: Analyze Clues to Solve the Environmental Mystery” session to learn how to bring fun phosphorus-related lessons related to waste water treatment into their classrooms.
The team also represented the STEPS Center at the NC State University Booth in the exhibit hall, exposing teachers to our free phosphorus lesson materials and research experience for teachers program.
