Kailyn Gilliam

Kailyn Gilliam currently serves as the Diversity Coordinator for the STEPS Center. In this role, she is responsible for the recruitment and retention efforts for STEPS Scholars by ensuring that the Center fosters and maintains an inclusive environment for all. Kailyn has a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters of Arts in Teaching, both earned, from James Madison University. Prior to working with the STEPS Center, Kailyn taught secondary English/Language Arts in Charlottesville, VA. Additionally, she has extensive experience in culturally-responsive pedagogy and inclusive best practices. She has served as an Equity Education Facilitator with Albemarle County Public Schools in Charlottesville, VA, and as a Program Specialist for Diversity and Inclusion Education and Training at East Carolina University.

Kailyn believes in creating spaces built on inclusivity, belongingness, and mutual respect. She is a strong advocate for educational equity and hopes to continue to move the Center forward in the efforts to reach their DEI-related objectives and goals.
